Tom Tiffany earned the nickname “Toxic Tom” for years of siding with mining and chemical companies over the health and wellbeing of his own district.

Tiffany openly criticized the Wisconsin DNR and objected to a report showing potential environmental hazards of the proposed Gogebic Taconite iron-ore mine in Ashland County.
Tiffany asked former Gov. Scott Walker to include a provision in the state budget axing approximately 17 positions from the Department of Natural Resources' Science Services Bureau. The measure prompted layoff notices for 27 staffers in the science bureau, as well as 30 others in the DNR's communications and education section.

Tiffany took nearly $75,000 from pro-iron mining interests, then sponsored a bill to vastly expand mining in Wisconsin
between 2010 and June of 2012, Tiffany received $74,915 from mining interests and others supportive of a mining bill to support the Gogebic Taconite mine in Iron County.
Tiffany then sponsored SB 1, a mining bill supported by Gogebic Taconite, during the next legislative session.

During the January 2011 special session, Tiffany voted for AB 7 to give over $33 million a year in tax breaks to corporations. He also voted for AB 4 to expand the amount of credits that the Department of Commerce can allocate by $25 million.
Tiffany voted to cut $500 million from seniors' health care, kicking seniors out of nursing homes and denying them in-home care they need to stay healthy and independent.
Tiffany voted to cap enrollment in Family Care - the longterm care program that gives seniors options other than nursing home living.
Tiffany voted to let bureaucrats in Madison raid funds meant for vetERANS.
Tiffany changed the law to let Madison take money directly from veterans' care and use it to pay bureaucrats in Madison.
